FRANCES (“FRAN”) AHEARN
Project Lighthouse's Secretary/Clerk and Director of Literacy Program
Fran, Sean’s wife, has been a teacher for many years. A busy young mother, she was recognized by the Boston Plan for Excellence for her contributions to the education of children. Fran, in collaboration with the Boston Plan for Excellence, produced a video entitled “Read Aloud.” The video, used in the Boston Public Schools System, explores and explains how teachers are able to assist students in better understanding what they are reading by using text to text connections, prior knowledge, and other learning techniques.
In addition to working with inner city children in the Boston Public Schools System, Fran has extensive experience working with children and the impoverished. She previously served as a Jesuit Volunteer in West Philadephia. Her understanding of early childhood development and empathy for those needing enhanced educational opportunities provides our organization with an important and valuable resource to assist people in becoming literate and bettering themselves and their communities.
